I recently visited a prospective DCIM customer who had already justified the budget for purchasing DCIM software. They manufacture telephone equipment and I asked them how they got their management to agree to pay for software to optimize their move, add and change processes as well as their utilization of power, cooling, space and networks and I got the best non-financial reasons for purchasing DCIM I have ever heard from an end user:
- “I work for a $50B company and we manage our data center using ‘frigg’n data sheets!”
- “We increased the complexity of our environment, but our tools are not keeping pace”
- “If we want to be among the market leaders IT best practices, we have to use DCIM”
